Humdum Mere, is a song i composed for a very close friend of mine..The bond of friendship between us has thought me a lot of values in life..
“The relations which require effort to be maintained are never true, and if the relations are true they never require any effort to be maintained“
April 30th 2007, Kanika(Kan) comes to my place on a Saturday as we decide to JAM…It was a long time that Kan wrote something and she was just eagerly waiting to come up with a creative idea. It was a different feeling all together with no Pavan(Singer of Saato Janam) and Pannu(my buddy in chord work). But we went ahead and I started to play the keyboard and got the basic feel of the song. Kan was fast enough to pen down a few words. I played a few notes on the keys and Kan said ‘That’s nice’..I froze on those lines and hummed them and Kan was ready with the words. Followed the same process and froze on many catchy lines and most of the words were in place and the song was taking a good shape. The format of this song turned out to be something very new and thanks to Kan for her brilliant lines which just touched my heart. We recorded a scratch version of this song with just a beat and my voice…..
I had to sing this song for the final version and every time started questioning myself ‘Can I do it? But the song grew on me day by day and I realized how I can sing the song better compared to the scratch version. Kan used to tell me that this song was made for my voice. The month of May just flew away with me trying out some new ideas for this song, programmed many things and scrapped out a lot as I thought the feel of the song has to be better.
I recorded my voice for this song on a weekend in the mid of June and sent it to Kan for her approval on my Hindi accent :-), Thankfully she said that my voice has come out gr8 with a few minor accent problems which should be ok. She said that listening to the song was so nice that I made her day…I had this new idea of adding a female voice for this song and Jaishree(Jai) from my college was the only one i had in my mind for this particular song. Immediately informed Jai that she would have to sing for a song of mine and she replied ‘anytime’. It was on June 30th I recorded Jai’s voice and felt the song is getting a complete feel now. Jai was amazed by the way she sounds on mic and felt that the idea of she singing for this song was turning out to be gr8.
All left now was balancing the song and sharing it with you people. It was a gr8 experience for me working on this song and I learnt that I can sing too :-)
Hope you guys like the song and please do post your comments on the same..
